FUNCTIONS & SERVICES DELIVERED
þ Appoints some school governors
þ Appoints representatives to local organisations and special interest groups
þ Considers every planning application submitted and passes its views back to the relevant authority
þ Provides funding for new street lights and reports street light faults to Somerset County Council
þ Reports blocked drains and overhanging hedges to the relevant authority
þ Sponsors school crossing patrols for every school which needs them
þ Manages and maintains Victoria Park, Mary Baily Playing Field,

þ Manages and maintains Merchants Barton toilet block
þ Manages and maintains Town Office, administration and financial services
þ Lets out flat, 6a
þ Promotes tourism, including the bi-annual printing of the Town Guide
þ Provides grants to local voluntary or other organisations who demonstrate significant local benefit through their projects, eg youth activities (including the youth council), activities for older residents, twinning, Frome Festival and other public events which encourage visitors to the town, help retailers and entertain residents
þ Provides and maintains floral displays in the town and Victoria Park

þ Provides Christmas lights displays in the town
þ Fundraises for community projects e.g. new skate and play facilities in Mary Baily Playing Field, redevelopment of Victoria Park
þ Funds provision and maintenance of some street furniture, signposts, bollards, seats, bus shelters etc.
þ Provides Town Council’s website
þ Provides 7 allotments sites which are administered by Frome Allotments Association:
Cranmore View
North Hill
Mendip View
Orchard Street
Welshmill

þ Cleans road signs in its area and reports footway and carriageway faults, as agents of the County Council
þ Supports the Town Mayor and a Town Crier as part of the civic and social life of the town

þ Administers Street Trading Licensing
þ
þ Represents local views on all issues to Mendip District Council and Somerset County Council when they are considering policies which may affect the town
þ Leases the Cheese and Grain building from MDC and sub-lets it to Cheese and Grain Ltd as a community facility

þ Provides partnership funding for town CCTV coverage, as part of community safety and anti-social behaviour reduction initiatives with Mendip Community Safety Partnership
þ Supports provision of ‘Alcohol Restricted Zones’, giving police increased powers to tackle anti –social behaviour related to excessive drinking
þ Provides partnership funding for town Police Community Support Officers
þ Provides or is involved in community events, including Frome Christmas Spectacular and
þ Provides member support for committees, forums and working parties; elections, subscriptions and training/conference expenses
þ Lobbies relevant agencies and third parties on issues of the day that are important to the community
