Town Mayor
Cllr Helen Sprawson-White - elected Mayor on 19th May 2010

I am both proud and privileged to be representing the town I love as Mayor.
I have spent most of my life in Frome, having moved here when I was nine. I am married to Jon and we have two children; Megan (8) and Owen (6) who both attend Trinity School. I work as a healthcare assistant at Frome Medical Practice.
When I became a councillor in 2007 I wanted to show young people in the town, people with young families and full time work, that it was possible to combine Council work with ordinary life. I hope, as Mayor, to be able to encourage other young people who are passionate about our town to come forward to stand for Council and get involved. Through letters in the press, people talking to me at work or through Facebook Groups etc. I have seen how many people feel strongly about what happens to Frome and so I want to show them that it is possible to be part of a team like this and help get things done!
It is customary for the Mayor to choose a local charity to support in their year. I am delighted to announce that this year I will be supporting the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. I chose this charity as it is close to my heart; without their speedy response after an accident in Frome 13 years ago I would not be alive today. For that my family and I will be eternally grateful. So supporting them is my little way of saying thank you, and I hope that you can join me in raising as much money for them as is possible. http://www.dorsetandsomersetairambulance.org.uk/
I hope to work together with the community at large to hold a series of events, some small, some larger, hopefully a little something for everyone, to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.
Finally, I endeavour to serve the town in a respectable and dignified way, and I would ask the people of Frome to join me and my fellow Councillors in making Frome an even better place to live.
