Vision 4 Frome
Community Plan launched - Your Vision for Frome
Vision for Frome has now completed the Frome Community Plan 2008 – 2028. It follows a detailed consultation undertaken with the residents, businesses and workers of Frome and the surrounding area. More than 3000 views were gathered from that consultation last summer. These have all been considered in the formulation of the Plan, together with results from focus group and review meetings that took place during the autumn. It covers issues and aims under six broad headings: ‘Economy’, ‘Getting Around’, ‘Housing & Heritage’, ‘Land Use, Food, Energy & Waste’, ‘Society & Well Being’ and ‘Young People’. Accompanying the Plan is a list of current and future projects to progress.
The most mentioned subjects during the consultation included: road use issues, public transport, pedestrian and wheelchair access, chain store clothes shops, family entertainment and restaurants, things for young people to do, social venues, sports facilities, town identity and focus point, business networking, preserving the character of the town, keeping green spaces, eco-building, good building design, the market, recycling facilities, green energy projects and social integration.
‘Within the Plan there are a considerable number of targets to achieve following on from the thousands of comments made, some easier to attain, others more difficult,’ said Peter Macfadyen, Chair of Vision for Frome. ‘They range from establishing alternative sources of energy to re-instating and increasing seating provision around the town.’
‘The next stage is to bring together the various community oriented groups, community-active individuals in the town, along with local government representatives and other relevant bodies, all under one roof two or perhaps three times a year. This Forum would agree projects to prioritise and would also be able to access expertise from within a Vision for Frome Management Team. This process is all about the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. If we work in partnership, people, businesses, organisations and local government together, then we’ll achieve together, and more swiftly than otherwise, realising the vision for Frome that people want to see.’
