Cllr Nick White - elected Frome Town Mayor on 18th May 2011.

Hello, welcome to my web page. Please click here to also find me on Facebook.

To give you a little background into my life; I was born at the Frome Victoria Hospital in 1961, to parents Ken & Brenda White. My father was also a Frome man who worked for most of his working life as an engineer at Frome Tool & Gauge, he unfortunately died in Sept. 2000, so could not share in his son's delight at being made Mayor; I know that he would have been very proud.

My mother, originally from York but who has lived in Frome for 56 years (she has almost naturalized save for her Yorkshire accent), worked at Frome College as a Cook and later as a support technician. She was also shop steward in Frome for NUPE. My mother is in rude health which is fortunate for me as I now work from her house and she doubles up as my office manager, receptionist, post room manager and canteen supervisor.

I went through the school system in Frome leaving the College in 1977 to be apprenticed at Butler & Tanner Ltd as a commercial apprentice. After completing my apprenticeship I worked in a number of departments before they decided that I was probably best cut out for a life in sales! I was dispatched to their London office at the tender age of 20, I went onto become sales manager and in 1993 was appointed to the board as sales director. I left B&T in 2003 and became sales director of Bath Press until 2007 when their parent company CPI closed them down. I now work for an Italian print group as an agent for them in the UK and Ireland.

I am divorced and now share my life with Claudia Pepler, who is director of the Merlin Theatre, and her two children Katrin and Dillon. I have four children of my own, Becca who is currently studying medicine at Exeter, Sarah and Peter who are both studying for their A levels and Hannah who has also just joined Frome College this academic year.

My interests include; the theatre, which threw Claudia and I together when we kissed in "An Evening with Gary Lineker". We recently met the author of the play, Arthur Smith, after his recent performance at the Merlin and explained his significance in our lives. I am currently a member of the Frome Drama Club, Frome Amateur Operatic Society, Merlin Theatre Co. and SATCO.

I am also a keen cricketer, a passion that I fortunately share with my son and we play regularly together for Cranmore CC where I am currently 3rd II captain. I also swim regularly at the leisure centre and enjoy watching rugby. I was fortunate to follow England down under in the 2003 world cup and was there in the stadium for that momentous final. I have been known to be pretty hot on the pool table in my time as well, there's a challenge!

I love pub life, and it is with regret that I learn that one of my favourites, Tuckers Grave, is to close in May 2011. Pubs are part of our true heritage, and when I sit with a pint in pubs like the Lamb & Fountain I feel that I am connecting with my ancestors in the town. When we lose these places that history goes with them. Support your local they need you more than ever.

I have never been involved in political life before and have never joined a political party. I have been a classic bar room politician up until this year when Claudia challenged me to put up or shut up. So remember she is to blame.
