2012 Olympic Celebrations

Various groups and organisations are arranging activities to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Frome.

More Than Gold Frome is the local arm of a national organisation which aims to help churches and Christian organisations make the most of opportunities presented to them by the Olympic and Paralympic Games being in London in 2012.  They are a partnership between the Churches of Frome (under the Frome Area Christians Together banner), sports clubs and community groups.  Led by the churches they aim to provide a number of ways in which the once in lifetime event of the Games being in our country can be celebrated by the people of Frome and the surrounding villages.

Torch Relay - the Olympic Torch Relay will pass through Frome on its travels around the country on Tuesday 22nd May 2012.   Frome Town Council is delighted its coming through the town and having a route of almost 2 miles on foot means plenty of opportunity for the public to see the torch and runners.  The Town Council is currently working with Mendip District Council and several volunteer organisations within the town to make it a day to remember.  We are hoping the local schools will be involved with our 'design a Frome torch' competition; bringing along their entries on the day for judging.  Watch this space for more information.

Frome Half Marathon - Frome Rotary Club in conjunction with Frome Running Club are organising a half marathon around Frome and 10k race to celebrate the Olympic year.  The event will be staged on Sunday 22nd July 2012 with the start and finish being at the Frome Town Football Club, both races will start together and go through the centre of the town.  If any individual, club or business wishes to help in the organisation or sponsorship of the event please contact either Richard Dredge on 01373 467145 or Dot Cretney on 01373 463904.  You can find out more information by clicking here and visiting the Frome half marathon website.
