Frome Community Fair
Calling all active citizens! Frome Town Council will be holding a Community Fair on Sunday 11th March 2012 from 10am to 4pm in the Cheese and Grain, Frome.
This is a free event providing the opportunity for voluntary groups and community organisations in Frome to come together and network, join up resources, swap and share ideas and learn about available funding options.
The fair will allow people to become better informed on the Town Council's new community grant process, as well as promoting other funding opportunities such as Frome Development Community Interest Company and the Frome Lottery.
We hope that local residents will come along to the fair to find out about volunteering opportunities and about becoming actively involved in society. A lot of fantastic work is carried out by many people in Frome who give up their valuable free time, often without seeking praise or recognition, to help make Frome a better place to live and work. More of these good citizens are needed!
The Town Council is also keen to update its database of useful contacts and local people with skills, expertise and interests in different areas. The fair will give people the chance to register their details with the Town Council for sharing with other like minded organisations.
Cllr Toby Eliot said "the Community Fair is the first visible step towards the Council's stated aim of increased community involvement. As with the new approach to Town Council working parties we're looking to Frome's existing expertise to help improve the life and environment of the town. The fair is an opportunity for the community groups that serve Frome to meet, inspire and engage each other and, potentially, discover opportunities to work together.
"As importantly, the Community Fair offers everyone in Frome the chance to learn who does what in the town and where they can get involved. I'd urge everyone with a spare ten minutes on March 11th to spend them in the Cheese and Grain discovering new ways to connect with, or become more deeply involved in, Frome life.
"Underneath all its other functions the Community Fair provides the opportunity to understand where Frome's strengths lie, what expertise exists and who does what in the town. This is vital information for all the organisations who want to see the whole community making successful decisions about the future of our town."
